Footwear Review: Soft Star Shoes RunAmoc Dash

Hello everyone,

Thanks for checking out the very first product review from Barefoot Ireland, hopefully it's the first of many! These shoes were sent to Barefoot Ireland Towers by the good people at Soft Star Shoes just before Christmas, and I've given them plenty of stern tests between then and now.

When I took these shoes out of the box I was struck by how unusual, yet beautiful they were. They also had that irresistible new car smell due to the fact that they are made largely of leather. When you pick up these shoes, you can feel the love that has gone into making them, they feel super light yet super sturdy and strong.

My first outing in the RunAmocs was a 5 mile road run. Early on my feet were telling me that these are bona fide minimalist shoes. I could feel the quirks of the ground underneath me, which for an experienced barefooter is fine, however I would recommend any beginner barefooter to stick to short runs in these shoes at first. Then again that is pretty much the case for any authentic minimalist gear. At the end of that run I knew that these shoes weren't going to get a real test until I took them onto rougher terrain, so that's what I did...

My first trail run in the RunAmocs was simply a joy. These shoes are more than capable of standing up to the challenges of your run of the mill trails. However I would not be as comfortable bringing them anywhere too far off the beaten track, stepping on a sharp rock or stick may cause problems, to be fair though that generally is the case with minimalist shoes.

Over the last couple of months these shoes have really stood up to any tests I've given them, be it on the road or my favourite trails. They look good, they feel good, two important boxes to tick if you ask me!

You can purchase these delightful shoes at http://www.softstarshoes.com/ for $97.00. I would really recommend them to anyone looking for something a bit different, they certainly appealed to my quirky side and I think they will do the same for alot you out there.

The design of the RunAmoc makes them fit a little bit on the snug side, so I would suggest getting them a size higher than you would normally go.
